FAQs
What is RAD Ballet?
RAD stands for the Royal Academy of Dance, one of the world’s most respected ballet training and examination organisations. It provides a globally recognised syllabus that focuses on both technique and artistry, helping students progress through graded levels in a structured and supportive way.

How is RAD Ballet different from regular ballet classes?
While both styles teach the beauty and discipline of classical ballet, RAD Ballet follows an internationally accredited syllabus with set exercises, musical phrasing, and performance standards. Students can work towards formal RAD examinations, which assess their technique, musicality, and performance quality.
Regular ballet classes at Legs still develop strength, flexibility, and creativity but RAD classes offer a clear pathway for those who want to achieve formal milestones or consider a professional dance future.

Who is RAD Ballet best suited for?
RAD Ballet is ideal for students who love structure and goal-setting. It’s also perfect for dancers considering teaching or professional training in the future, as many full-time programs and teaching qualifications recognise RAD credentials worldwide.

What are the benefits of doing RAD Ballet?
For dedicated students, RAD training can open pathways to professional dance schools, performance careers, or teaching qualifications. To become an accredited RAD ballet teacher, for instance, dancers must reach specific syllabus levels and Legs provides the foundation for those aspirations.

What qualifications can RAD Ballet lead to?
Our dancers shine in mid-year and end-of-year concerts, plus special opportunities such as competitions, community events, and even overseas trips. One testimonial shared how their daughter’s experience at Legs opened doors to elite dance schools across Australia. Performances not only build stage confidence but also create memories for the whole family.

How can we get started with RAD Ballet at Legs?
You can contact us to find the right RAD class for your dancer’s age and experience. Our qualified ballet teachers many of whom trained under the RAD system themselves will help your child begin their journey with confidence.

Our RAD Ballet and Advanced Classes
The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is one of the most prestigious dance organisations in the world. With a history spanning over 100 years, RAD sets the global standard for ballet training. The RAD syllabus is carefully crafted to ensure dancers develop technical precision, artistry, and grace through a progressive series of levels.
At Legs Performing Arts, Michelle Heine is a qualified RAD Teacher and was a member of the ACT Royal Academy of Dance Board for almost twenty years before retiring. A RAD-registered teacher will identify when a candidate is ready to take an exam and progress to the next stage. Age requirements are also established for RAD exams, class awards, solo performance awards, and presentation classes. The minimum age must be reached by a specified date before each exam session. For preschoolers, see our Ready Set Dance.

Our RAD ballet dance classes suit students of all ages and abilities. Whether your child is a beginner or an experienced dancer, RAD provides a pathway to nurture their talents. With the opportunity to participate in RAD exams, students can gain internationally recognised qualifications that reflect their progress and commitment to dance. Every class is taught with care and attention, ensuring students are encouraged to reach their full potential.
